Born in Hong Kong and raised in New Zealand, Cheuky grew up in Christchurch where she entered university at age 16. Since completing her Master's degree in Performance with Distinction from Canterbury University, NZ, under the tutelage of Hungarian pianist Péter Nagy, she went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar, Germany, with Prof. Peter Waas. In 2016, she moved to Cardiff, Wales, to undertake Accompaniment and Répétiteur studies at the Wales International Academy of Voice under Dennis O'Neill CBE.

 

Cheuky was the recipient of the Keith Laugesen Music Scholarship in 2017, the University of Canterbury Masters Scholarship in 2005, the Leslie Atkinson Memorial Prize for Music in 2003, and the Irene Lassen Exhibition Prize in 2000. She was a Freemasons Dame Malvina Major New Zealand Opera Emerging Artist Répétiteur in 2013-14.

 

Cheuky has extensive experience as a soloist, accompanist, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist. She has performed at the NZ Embassy in Berlin, Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida, Wales Millennium Centre, and numerous major centres across NZ. She has performed alongside Dame Malvina Major, Plácido Domingo, Katherine Jenkins, and Jason Howard. She has worked with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, NZ Opera, IFAC Handa NZ Singing School, the International Akaroa Music Festival, Welsh National Opera, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Wedmore Opera, and Lyric Opera Studio Weimar. She toured overseas with the UK Lions Rugby Male Choir in 2017 and the Welsh Comrades Male Choir in 2016.

 

As an opera répétiteur, Cheuky has worked on productions of Don Giovanni, Der fliegender Holländer, Noye's FluddeCavalleria rusticana, Die Zauberflöte, and Le nozze di Figaro. She has also been surtitles operator for productions of La bohème, Madama Butterfly, Der fliegender Holländer, Khovanshchina, From the House of the Dead, Eugene Onegin, Falstaff,  The Magic Flute, and Un ballo in maschera. She has been the accompanist for masterclasses and coachings given by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dame Malvina Major, Richard Bonnynge, Dennis O'Neill, Ryland Davies, Susan Bullock, Yvonne Kenny, Nuccia Foccile, Della Jones, Nelly Miricioiu, Francesco Pasqualetti, Jonathan Lemalu, Damon Nestor Ploumis, and Capucine Chiaudani. She is able to coach diction in the English, German, Italian and French languages.

 

During her time in Somerset, she taught piano at Millfield School and Dauntsey's School.

 

Cheuky is currently based in Essex, UK, where she is active as a freelance accompanist, teacher and répétiteur.
